Why does God choose to relate to us, human beings, as a promise keeper? What does this tell us about God’s character and the nature of the relationship he wants to have with us individually and collectively? We see throughout Scripture different characters, such as Abraham and David, who have wrestled with what it means to trust a promise-making and keeping God. We see some who grasp hold of God’s promises, like Jacob and Daniel, and stake their lives on them. And we are invited to do the same within the journey of our own lives. We’ll be exploring the complexity as well as the great hope that each of us can face in this relational dynamic with God.

If God is a promise-making God and the scriptures are His word, can we take ownership of every word written as a personal promise to us? What can we really count on? What can we contend with God about? During this series, we will learn to navigate and study the scriptures more deeply, meditate on their truths, and perhaps commit some of these words of promise to memory. We’ll put what we learned in the Scripture Practice to work as we explore the Promises God Makes.
